Today I shall talk about animals.Let us talk about elephants, in general. They are massive creatures and are mainly found in the jungles of India, Kenya, Burma and many other parts of the world. In fact, they are used to carry huge logs for transportation in Burma.

Elephants live in the wild. Adult elephants don't really have any natural predators other than people and the all-dreaded lion. Lions really only attack elephant calves and old and weak adults. Humans are more dangerous to elephants. Elephants are slow creatures, grow slowly, have a long life, and take almost two years before they are born. The people living around the natural habitat of elephants are poor. Hence they hunt and poach them to make a good living by selling their tusks. The number of elephants in the wild has fallen dramatically in the last century.

Another threat to elephants is the advent of humans in their surroundings. As the human population grows(or, explodes, should I say?), there becomes less and less land for people to use for farming. Everyday more forests are cut down to make room for fields and pastures, leaving little space for elephants to roam about and find food. Elephants are the same; they crash through forests tearing up trees and shrubs and eating everything in their wake, returning when the forest has regrown. Very often, they play havoc on farmers' fields. The farmers then retaliate by shooting them down, instead of having to build barricades against these colossal animals which in itself is very expensive. This way they kill two birds with one stone!!
